With boots in hand, Mercer Island firefighters will be collecting donations from drivers in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Thursday, June 9. The annual Fill the Boot drive will take place at the intersection of Island Crest Way and S.E. 40th Street.
Since 1954, International Association of Fire Fighters members have raised nearly $300 million for MDA primarily through Fill the Boot drives. The IAFF is committed to helping end neuromuscular diseases.
"For more than five decades, firefighters across the country have done an unbelievable job helping the MDA with their time and energy in helping raise funds," said MDA Chairman and CEO Gerald C. Weinberg. "They are our true heroes. They make a difference that has impacted MDA patients throughout the years. They are truly inspiring, selfless individuals."
Fill the Boot funds support MDA’s services locally and nationally, including medical clinics staffed with specialists in neuromuscular disease and special summer camps for kids.
