Two vehicles recovered after string of car thefts
Three vehicles were stolen on the North end of Mercer Island last week.
"It is likely there is at least one, if not more, car theft rings operating," Commander Leslie Burns stated of the thefts.
A Lexus was stolen out of a garage on Nov. 15 in conjunction with a burglary at a residence in the 2000 block of 82nd Avenue S.E. at the north tip of the Island. The burglary occurred sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. The Seattle Police Department recovered the vehicle in the International District. Unknown suspects stole other items from the residence, including jewelry, currency, coins and a desktop computer. The Mercer Island Police Department is actively investigating several leads in the case.
A high school student's Subaru Forester was stolen at MIHS in the 4200 block of 88th Avenue S.E. on Nov. 16. The student, 16, left her car keys in the high school lunch room. By the time she went back for the keys, they had disappeared. She returned to her car in the evening with another set of keys, but the car was missing. A description of the Subaru included a dent on one of the vehicle's rear corners. The vehicle was later recovered.
A third vehicle, a Honda Civic, was stolen sometime overnight on Nov. 16 in the 3300 block of 80th Avenue S.E. It had been parked in the street, and has not yet been recovered.
