The City of Mercer Island's Maintenance Director, James Mason, has been chosen as the new assistant city manager for the city of Ventura, Calif.

Mason, who was hired as the City's deputy city manager in 2009, is currently on an 18-month rotation as the city's maintenance director. His last day of work will be Jan. 27.

"I will miss Mercer Island. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving this community," said Mason in a press release. "Mercer Island is a model for other communities, including it's many community partnerships, and I will be building a lot on what I have learned here."

He said his decision represents a next step in fulfilling his career goals and that the warm climate will be a better fit for the needs of his family.

"James has been a delight to work with," said city manager Rich Conrad. "We will all miss his easy-going and positive style."
