Mercer Island's 80th Ave. S.E. on-ramp to I-90 closed for a month

If you've noticed an increase in traffic at the Island Crest Way or other on ramps around the Island lately, it's likely because the on-ramp from 80th Ave. S.E., which used to service the express lanes, is closed for construction.

The ramp closed on Jan. 23 and will likely be closed for four weeks.

The Washington State Department of Transportation closed the reversible ramp to realign the ramp for the new HOV lane to the eastbound outer roadway of I-90. Once the ramp reopens cars will travel only to the HOV lane in the eastbound direction.

Because of the closure, all King County Metro buses, carpools and vanpools will use the ramp at Island Crest Way.

The project is part of Stage 2 of the I-90 two-way transit and HOV operations project, which added an HOV lane to the outer roadway of eastbound I-90. Stage 3 of the project is currently in design. That final stage will add a new outer roadway HOV lane in each direction of I-90.
