Letter | Rotary Run thank you

March 25, 2012 · 3:46 PM

To the City of Mercer Island, The Mercer Island Rotary Foundation, Swedish Cancer Institute and the many other Sponsors;

I thank you!

The run this morning was spectacular and I am certain, no small feat to orchestrate.

To all the runners that awoke early to an alarm and debated inside your heads whether or not 13.1 actually sounded good, I thank you. Half the battle is just showing up and ‘doing it’. Never mind hydration, cramping feet, sore knees and in my case vertigo at mile 9. You all inspire me. The energy one feels at the ‘Start’ is palpable and an absolute blast to be a part of.

To everyone who volunteered, helped, showed up to cheer and be a part of this most wonderful community I call home, I thank you.

To the young blond boy sporting the purple UW sweatshirt on East Mercer, I thank you – YOU MADE ME SMILE!

To the spectators on West Mercer Way waving signs that ‘Toenails are Over-Rated’, I thank you – YOU MADE ME LAUGH!

To the Mercer Island Police Department, I thank you – YOU GUYS COULDN’T BE NICER!

I have had the privilege of running in many wonderful places this past year, including the NY Marathon in Nov. Nothing . . . and I mean nothing, comes close to the overwhelming joy I felt this morning running in my home town!

With gratitude,

Susan Marinello
