On Saturday, April 28, the Mercer Island Police Department, along with the Drug Enforcement Agency, held a take-back event.

The event allowed Islanders to drop off unused and unwanted medicine and drugs.

Mercer Island police officers, including evidence technician Kelly Donnelly and Detective/SRO Chad Schumacher, participated.

They collected approximately 130 pounds of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medication.

Detective Schumacher said he believed the amount is higher than the amount collected six months ago.
