The Mercer Island Thrift Shop (MITS) is extending its hours of retail operation to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, in response to customer trends.

According to Thrift Shop coordinator, Suzanne Philen, a recent analysis found that MITS shoppers were still active up to the old closing time of 7 p.m.

To support sales and maximize convenience for customers, the decision was made to increase store hours to 8 p.m. as of Saturday, May 5.

MITS is a program of Mercer Island Youth and Family Services, and all sales proceeds go to support its programs, such as school and community counseling, emergency family assistance, individualized services for seniors, and the VOICE/SVP youth programs.

Many Island volunteers donate countless hours to the store and are a big reason for its success.
