Garbage rates rise 7 percent this summer on Mercer Island

Rates for Allied Waste Services will increase this summer by an average of 7.3 percent. The city of Mercer Island approved the rate increase, which will go into effect on July 1 and will vary by level of service. The increase is related to a 2009 contract between the city and Allied Waste.
