DOT worker helps injured man | Mercer Island Police Blotter
A 25-year-old Seattle man sought help from a DOT worker after being physically restrained and beaten at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, in a residence in the 3000 block of 67th Avenue S.E. The victim was staying as a guest in the home of a 42-year-old man after meeting the residents in Seattle. After being released, he got help from a DOT worker, who called 911.
Burglary: Someone entered an attached garage in the 4400 block of East Mercer Way between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and used an unknown tool in a failed attempt to pry open the door into the main residence. The victim did not believe any items were missing.
DUI: A Lincoln Town Car went into a ditch in the 2500 block of 74th Avenue S.E. at 7:06 p.m. The 82-year-old driver admitted drinking too much, getting into his vehicle and driving into the ditch. Police arrested and cited the man for DUI. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
Jersey theft: Someone stole an Islander football jersey and shoulder pads from a front porch in the 8600 block of S.E. 40th Street sometime overnight.
Fraud: $1,633.80 was charged to a 62-year-old North end man’s credit card in an unauthorized transaction.
Theft: A South end woman’s Hydrocodon pills were stolen out of her master bedroom in the 6800 block of West Mercer Way. The pills had been stored in the back of a counter drawer. Blank checks and jewelry were kept in the same location, but were not stolen. Four people had been in the victim’s home that day — her housekeeper and some painters, all of whom had done work for the victim for many years.
Malicious mischief: A small window pane in a garage was broken sometime between 5:25 and 7 p.m. in the 4100 block of 86th Avenue S.E. in the PEAK neighborhood. The window was probably broken by someone with an airsoft gun in a passing vehicle.
DUI: A 37-year-old Bellevue man called 911 and reported that his vehicle was stuck after hitting something at 9:04 p.m. in the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E. Police officers responded to the scene and found that the driver’s vehicle, an Acura SUV, had two blown-out passenger tires. The driver smelled of intoxicants and failed standard sobriety tests. He was arrested at 9:30 p.m. and was later released to a sober friend.
Malicious mischief: A passenger window of a Kia Motors Corp. Optima was shattered by BB pellets sometime after the previous morning in the 3000 block of 80th Avenue S.E. The right side of the vehicle was also dinged.
Accident: An Acura SUV driven by a 16-year-old girl struck a curb while making a left-hand turn in the intersection of East Mercer Way and the I-90 westbound off-ramp at 12:15 p.m. The vehicle’s suspension was damaged and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
Arrests: Police arrested a 42-year-old California man at 4:44 p.m. in the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E. for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The Seattle Police Department then took custody of the suspect.
Police took custody of a 32-year-old Seattle man at 5:49 p.m. when he was released from the King County Jail, and booked him into the Issaquah Jail on a local misdemeanor warrant.
Lost wallet: A 76-year-old Mercer Island man reported losing his wallet, which contained his debit and credit cards, and driver’s license. He last saw the wallet when he was near Coldwell Banker-Bain in the 2800 block of 78th Avenue S.E.
