Beginning Thursday, Nov. 1 studded tires for winter driving are permitted on Washington roads.

Drivers are also encouraged to keep chains in their vehicle, especially when preparing to drive over in the mountains. When a highway advisory calls for chains, drivers who do not chain up can get a $500 ticket.

Studded tires are legal Nov. 1 through March 31.
