Pedestrian hit by car Monday in Mercer Island Town Center

An 84-year old woman sustained head and chest injuries after being struck by a car on Monday, Oct. 29 just before 3 p.m., while crossing the street on 77th Ave. S.E.

According to the Mercer Island Police Department report, the driver, a 75-year old woman from Bellevue, driving a Lexus SUV, was traveling southbound on 77th Ave. S.E. near Sunset Highway and slowed after seeing a pedestrian on the left hand side preparing to cross the street, when she hit the 84-year-old who was using a walker to cross the street on the right hand side of 77th Ave.

The woman was treated by the Mercer Island Fire Department and was transported to Harborview Hospital.

A witness, who was driving behind the Lexus, told police the driver was not going more than 18 miles per hour at the time of the collision.

The police department was dispatched to the incident at 2:52 p.m. and arrive at 2:55 p.m.
