Pair takes shots at North end apartment building | Mercer Island Police Blotter
A 42-year-old man reported two subjects shooting at his apartment building with an air rifle at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the 3000 block of 80th Avenue S.E.
The subjects were on a balcony outside of an adjacent apartment building. The witness and building manager found that an apartment window was damaged with four holes and will cost $500 to replace.
Police contacted the subjects, a 20-year-old man and 14-year-old girl, at the West Wind Apartments and arrested the young man at 1:30 p.m.
Police recovered two air rifles and BB pellets as evidence from the suspect’s apartment.

The Mercer Island Police Department reported 16 arrests and 1,066 calls for service in October, including one robbery, four cases of assault, six burglaries, 13 thefts and one vehicle theft.
According to the monthly traffic report, there were 11 total accidents, one pedestrian/vehicle accident, one DUI accident and five DUI arrests, and 288 total citations including 79 parking citations.
Fraud: Two credit accounts were opened fraudulently in a 61-year-old Mercer Island woman’s name.
Burglary: A 62-year-old woman found her back kitchen door open when she came home in the 5700 block of 92nd Avenue S.E., in a neighborhood east of Island Crest Park. An intruder had entered without the use of force and rummaged through the victim’s house sometime between 8 a.m. and 7:10 p.m. An iPad and jewelry were stolen out of the master bedroom. The jewelry, collected and created by the victim, was worth $100,000.
Accident: A van rear-ended a Cadillac at 2:12 p.m. in the intersection of Island Crest Way and 82nd Avenue S.E. The 25-year-old driver of the van said he had been looking down at his GPS to find a gas station and did not see the Cadillac stopped for traffic, northbound, until it was too late. He was cited for negligent driving. Both vehicles were towed and no injuries were reported.
Pedestrian accident: A 54-year-old woman crossed the street against the light in the intersection of S.E. 27th Street and 77th Avenue S.E., and was struck by a vehicle at 5:05 p.m. The 31-year-old driver had a green light, as confirmed by witnesses. The driver braked and said that “the pedestrian ran in front of the vehicle,” according to the case report. Three witnesses present said that the pedestrian did not obey the traffic light and ran across the intersection, trying to avoid oncoming vehicles. The pedestrian sustained a knee injury.
Suspicious circumstance: A former City of Mercer Island employee called the city and asked for information about employees, under the guise of a lawyer, several times. Two witnesses have observed the suspect on City Hall property since his job termination.
Paintball gun theft: A paintball gun was stolen out of a 36-year-old man’s storage unit in the 9000 block of East Shorewood Drive sometime after Nov. 7.
DUI: Police stopped a van making several lane travel violations at 2 a.m. in the 6600 block of westbound I-90 and arrested the 56-year-old driver, a Spokane resident, who had been drinking. The driver, who had past convictions on record, admitted consuming one beer and failed standard sobriety tests. He was transported to a local hospital for a blood draw.
Drugs: Mercer Island High School staff turned in suspected narcotics for the MIPD to test and dispose of.
Burglary: Someone broke into a home through the front French door in the 4100 block of 80th Avenue S.E., next to Homestead Field, between 12:30 and 5 p.m. Multiple items were stolen, including jazz, steel and Spanish guitars, computers, electronics, watches, knives and jewelry. Fingerprints were lifted for evidence.
