A member of the serving staff at Mercer Island Rotary Club luncheons, Dante Durant, was murdered in Skyway in December.
Durant was a server at Rotary luncheons for more than seven years.
“We all felt really close to him,” Nancy Lee, Rotary Club president, said. “He was the most enthusiastic and loyal server you’d ever know.”
Seattle resident Christina Kasper-Lewis, 31, Durant’s girlfriend, has been charged and was arraigned in King County Court on one count of murder in the second degree. Accused of stabbing her 31-year-old boyfriend to death during an argument the night of Dec. 19 at his Skyway apartment, she pled not guilty on Jan. 3 despite having admitted to the murder in a statement to detectives. The couple had previous incidents of domestic violence.
Kasper-Lewis' bail remains set at $1 million, and her next court date will be Jan. 17.
A service for Durant was held in Des Moines last weekend, attended by 50 Rotarians.
