A water main broke early Wednesday morning on First Hill, leaving a utility pole dangling over the road in the 7300 block of S.E. 36th Street. Homes in the neighborhood were without water for an estimated 45 minutes.
The break occurred around 9 a.m.
"We're currently waiting for a company to secure the utility pole so that we can safely enter the area of the main break to make our repairs," said Terry Smith, City of Mercer Island utilities operations manager.
Mercer Island police and fire responded to the scene, and the cause of the break is under investigation.
