The City of Mercer Island and the Mercer Island School District Board of Directors will hold meetings on the same day, Tuesday, Jan. 22.

The City Council will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday.

The meeting is set to begin at 7 p.m., but there will be a celebration of the Green Power grant given to the City by Puget Sound Energy beginning at 6 p.m.

On the agenda, the council is going to approve the solid waste interlocal agreement terms and discuss Town Center code amendments. Those include possibly modifying the 60/40 rule for ground floor retail space, as well as looking at the requirement for no net loss on ground floor retail place and the possibility of adding a no "walk-off" parking requirement.

Earlier on Tuesday, the MISD Board of Directors will hold the annual school board retreat. The meeting will be held in the board room at the MISD administration building and begins at 9 a.m.

The board will discuss the latest phone survey research done by EMC earlier in 2013, as well as the next steps for the facilities master plan. The possible tolling of Interstate-90 and the impacts on the district is also on the agenda for discussion, as well as policy implications for public records requests.

The meeting is expected to adjourn at 3:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Jan. 24 the board will have a regular meeting, beginning at 9 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

The board plans to discuss facilities master planning.
