Schiehser takes on new responsibilities

Mercer Island High School Associate Principal Michael Schiehser will take over as interim director of instruction and assessment following the retirement of Sharon Gillaspie on June 30.

Superintendent Gary Plano announced the news last week, expressing his confidence in Schiehser as a choice for the interim role. Schiehser has worked as MIHS associate principal for three years and has previous administrative experience from California. A National Board Certified teacher, the associate principal has worked closely with teachers and leaders in instruction, instructional design and assessment. He holds degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder and California State University at Fullerton.

Plano will search for a permanent director of instruction and assessment later this year.
