Heavy traffic expected for Memorial Day weekend, travelers urged to plan ahead
Anyone heading out of town for Memorial Day weekend is encouraged to plan ahead, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Heavy traffic is expected along state freeways, including I-90 across Mercer Island.
Get the latest traffic information by visit the WSDOT website. Travelers can also call 511 for the state's travel information hotline, which includes information about the mountain passes and ferries.
Drivers also encouraged to program the highway advisory stations 530 AM and 1610 AM to their vehicle's radios.
WSDOT will suspend most highway construction beginning at noon on Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27 because of the holiday. Highway 2 just west of Stevens Pass will be reduced to one lane in each direction while crews work to stabilize slopes.
