Neighbors involved in property dispute blamed for vehicle vandalism | Mercer Island Police Blotter

The vehicle belonging to a 54-year-old Mercer Island woman living in the 7000 block of S.E. Maker Street was vandalized sometime between 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, and 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11. The driver’s side window was smashed, and the vehicle was egged, keyed and dented. The victim suspects her neighbors to be responsible since the two parties have been engaged in a persistent property dispute for many years.

INFORMATIONAL REPORT: After a 55-year-old Mercer Island man incorrectly discharged himself from the Mercer Island Care and Rehabilitation Center, the staff gathered his belongings and found small bags of marijuana and a bottle of alcohol. The items are currently being held at the Mercer Island Police Department in safekeeping, to be picked up by owner.

FOUND: An abandoned mountain bike was discovered in Pioneer Park around 6:36 p.m. by a 77-year-old Mercer Island woman who subsequently contacted the police.

CAR PROWL: The front passenger window was broken out of a Chevrolet sometime between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. in the 3400 block of 80th Avenue S.E. An HP laptop was stolen out of the vehicle, along with an iPhone charger. The vehicle had been locked and parked on the road in front of a friend’s house.

Saturday | 17

ARREST: Police stopped a vehicle for making an illegal U-turn and equipment violations at 2:09 a.m. The 30-year-old driver had a $5,100 warrant for assault, domestic violence and interfering with reporting. He was booked into the King County Jail.

THEFTS: A Mercer Island woman’s debit card was used in an attempt to purchase 60 Dell laptops from an online retailer, which called the victim to verify the transaction. The victim promptly cancelled the purchase and debit card. The suspect had obtained the debit card number from a cellphone that had been stolen from the victim’s son.

A woman’s bicycle was stolen at the Luther Burbank Park swim area sometime between 6:15 and 8:15 p.m. The bike was described as a Raleigh Capri 2.0, silver with white and pink accents.

Sunday | 18

ARREST: A 29-year-old driver in an Acura was stopped for speeding at 2:20 a.m. in the 2200 block of 76th Avenue S.E. The Kent resident had a $7,500 warrant for failure to appear in court for a DUI. Police issued tickets and booked the suspect into the King County Jail on the warrant.

ABANDONED BIKE: A 50-year-old woman reported an abandoned bicycle to police at 9 p.m. in the 2700 block of 77th Avenue S.E.
