Blue Angels set to return next August

The Seattle Times reports that the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels flight team will again be roaring over the Island in 2014 for Seafair.

According to a Navy press release, the Blue Angels show was canceled last summer after federal sequestration forced across the board funding cuts. The cuts made by the federal Department of Defense meant that 2,800 public outreach events throughout the country were put on hold.

The Times story said, most Department of Defense public-outreach programs will be operating at reduced capacity next year according to a department release.

The cost-cutting measures — which could affect the frequency of other shows involving jets, parachute teams, bands and port visits — will save the department $104 million.
