Mercer Island Marine Patrol Sergeant Jim Robarge won Washington state's 2013 Marine Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award at last week's Marine Patrol Conference.

Sergeant Robarge has been instrumental in organizing the annual Seafair Boating Under the Influence Emphasis patrol, as well as leading the MI Police Department's boating and water safety education and outreach programs in the elementary schools. When he isn't on the water or teaching, Sergeant Robarge has been a frequent guest on radio talk shows in the region, providing information about safe boating.
