Local gardening guru, Ciscoe Morris, in red jacket at right, came by last Saturday to help Islanders laugh and celebrate at the grand re-opening of True Value Hardware in its new location near Walgreens. When a fire alarm interrupted his talk inside the store, Ciscoe took the show outside, his audience of garden enthusiasts trailing like ducklings. / Matt Brashears / Special to the Reporter

True Value Hardware owner De Calvert introduces the new store mascot, Pepper, an Australian Shepherd puppy, to customers on a sunny Saturday, Nov. 23. Pepper takes over for Willow, another Aussie who died of old age earlier this year.

Ciscoe Morris, in front, had to continue his talk on gardening after the fire alarm accidentally went off inside the store. He did so with aplomb.
