Have a blast at Chemistry Camp

If you find yourself near Newport High School between August 4 and 8,,you may hear some mysterious bangs and blasts.  Do not be alarmed, it’s just 7th and 8th graders doing some experiments at the week-long camp named “Chemistry is a BLAST!”

The camp is open to students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who have an interest in science and want to learn about topics like the chemistry behind fire, color-changing reactions and tie-dye. The $249 class fee includes a camp t-shirt and covers the cost of any damage to glassware or other equipment. The instructor, Melissa Baker, considers herself a modern day mad scientist and has been teaching chemistry for over seven  years.  She has a passion for helping kids learn how fun and interesting the subject of chemistry can be.
