520 Tolling Open House tonight at Community Center

Island residents who want to share their thoughts regarding possible tolls on the SR-520 and/or I-90 bridges can do so tonight, Aug. 13, at the Community Center at Mercer View, 8236 S.E. 24th St.

The 520 Tolling Implementation Committee has announced four possible tolling scenarios and the possible revenue that each scenario could raise to rebuild and maintain the 520 bridge. The committee is gathering public feedback on these scenarios, which could affect I-90, SR-522 and other major roadways in the area.

The meeting will include an open house from 5 until 7:30 p.m. with a presentation beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting is an opportunity to provide input and learn about four tolling options being considered. The open houses will include comparisons of forecasts of bridge funding raised by different toll rates and changes in traffic patterns.

Members of the public who cannot attend the open houses can learn more about the committee’s work and provide input at www.build520.org. The committee’s final report is due to the governor and the Legislature in January 2009.
