Come out and play

The annual kids’ Summer Carnival is from noon until 4 p.m., Aug. 15, at Mercerdale Park.

Join your friends for the annual end-of-summer carnival, filled with fun. The day has been proclaimed as Mercer Island’s “Day of Play” by the Mayor of Playful Cities, so get out of the house and come on down! There will be inflatable rides, concessions, performers and more. Free.

Time to sing

The Island Children’s Choir is holding auditions for the 2008-09 season at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, at the Mercer Island Covenant Church.

All fourth, fifth and sixth-grade boys and girls are welcome to audition.

Nothing needs to be prepared and no appointment is necessary.

Time to listen

Bring a picnic and get ready to enjoy another evening with Mostly Music in the Park at Mercerdale Park. The concert series continues at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 14, with Orchestra Zarabanda (Kinetic Cuban Dance), and on Sunday, Aug. 17, with the Emerald City Jugband. All concerts are free.

Time to watch

Movies in the Park begins this week. All shows start at 8 p.m. or dusk — “Ratatouille” is Aug. 16, and “Meet the Robinsons” is Aug. 23 at Mercerdale Park. Bring blankets, chairs and flashlights. Children’s activities precede the movie, which is free. 275-7862.

Starbucks re-opens

The South-end Starbucks will re-open on Friday, Aug. 15, after being remodelled. The revamped space features art by local artist, Michal Goldberg.
