The Friends of Mercer Island Library will hold its semi-annual book sale Oct. 14-15.

More than a thousand books will be on sale.

The role of the Friends is to generate money for the Mercer Island Branch of the King County Library system. The money is used to sponsor a variety of events such as a popular end of summer picnic, activities such as concerts and author appearances. the Friends have also purchased equipment for the libraries and its events such as digital cameras.

Books sold at the sale are donations from local families and are collected year round. The group reports that due to the generous donations of Island residents, there is an abundance of books and other media to sell, including CDs, DVDs and videos in every category. The book sale last April generated more than $3,000 for library programs.

The sale will be held from 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Friday Oct. 14th. Islanders may join or renew their membership at that time. An annual family membership is $15. The general sale will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

Between 4 and 5 p.m. there will be the traditional close-out special of a $1 per bag.

A silent auction for collectible books and other items is on-going. Visit the library for details or call Sally Porter at 236-3537 or Lori Robinson at 232-7980.
