MIPA announces grant recipients

The Mercer Island Preschool Association announced its 2004-2005 charitable grant recipients. Over $6,000 was allotted to eight recipients that demonstrated funds would be used to positively and materially impact the learning environment of preschool-age children.

Grant winners include: BCC Pre-Toddlers & Toddlers, Country Village Day School, Kindering Center (Bellevue), Learning Lab, Patti's Play Center, Sunnybeam Preschool, West Mercer Preschool, and Youth Theatre Northwest.

In addition to the grants, MIPA has just allotted $10,000 to Childhaven (Seattle) and Eastside Baby Corner (Issaquah), and to annual recipients: Mercer Island Youth and Family Services and the city's Summer Celebration.

Preschools, daycare and enrichment centers for preschool-age children, both on and off Mercer Island, are eligible to apply each year for grants.

Since its inception in 1937, the Mercer Island Preschool Association (MIPA) has raised funds for preschools, community institutions, parks children's programs and other initiatives benefiting preschool-age children. It holds various family-oriented events, such as the upcoming Rainy Day and Circus, and has sold activity books and other items to support its charitable giving arm.

The MIPA is a private non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of young children on Mercer Island and the community at large. The Mercer Island Preschool Association has over 220 members and is open to all people interested in the welfare of children. The MIPA's activities are completely organized and staffed by parent volunteers.
