On Thursday, Aug. 25, someone broke into a home in the 6200 block of 78th Avenue S.E. and stole several items of jewelry and computer equipment. The residents left the home at 2:10 p.m. and returned less than two hours later, when they discovered the burglary. Missing items include personal records and paperwork, a Canon printer, Sony desktop computer, assorted jewelry, a Patek Phillipe watch and two men's rings, one with a Roman coin face and the other with the insignia LBL.
A Island man reported to police early, on Aug. 21, that someone stole two plastic tubs filled with assorted tools and various items of sporting and camping equipment from a storage unit at the victim's apartment, in the 3500 block of 90th Avenue S.E. The lock on the storage unit had been cut.
During the night of Aug. 22, someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the 7800 block of S.E. 73rd Place and stole a ZIRE brand palm pilot, three golf clubs and a purse with a wallet that contained a VISA card. There was no damage to the vehicle, but the missing items are estimated at $615.
The same night, someone entered an unlocked BMW 528i parked in the driveway of a residence in the 7800 block of S.E. 75th Street. Two purses were stolen from the vehicle, including a designer Prada handbag. The contents of one purse was dumped inside the vehicle. There are no suspects.
Fingerprints were taken from items left inside a Volkswagen Jetta that was prowled between 11 p.m., Aug. 22, and 7 a.m., Aug. 23, in the 2200 block of 78th Avenue S.E. Electronics equipment was stolen from that vehicle, including a Sony JLA subwoofer and neon blue faceplate stereo system.
Someone punched in the door handle of a Dodge Caravan minivan that was in a parking lot in the 7500 block of S.E. 24th Street. A Bellevue man had parked the car there while he was at work between 7:30 a.m. and 9:45 p.m., Aug. 22. Several items were taken including a garage door opener and registration for the vehicle.
A Mercer Island woman reported that sometime between 8 a.m. and 4:50 p.m., Aug. 22, someone stole her 1991 Nissan Maxima from the Park & Ride in the 7000 block of S.E. 24th Street.
Stolen Shorewood truck found during drug arrest
An Island man was arrested by Mercer Island police at 12:47 a.m., Aug. 25, after a traffic stop resulted in the discovery of marijuana in the man's pants pocket and his admission of stealing the vehicle, a Ford Ranger truck owned by Shorewood Heights Apartments. The arrest occurred in the 7500 block of 78th Avenue S.E. Signs had been taped on the doors of the vehicle to cover the Shorewood ownership lettering. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and first-degree motor vehicle theft. He was transported to Mercer Island Police department for processing.
Juvenile DUI arrest
At 12:33 a.m., Aug. 24, a 17-year-old Island girl was arrested in the 5000 block of Island Crest Way after she was stopped for driving 58 mph in a 35 mph zone. The girl admitted to drinking alcohol and a partially consumed bottle of Bacardi rum was found in her purse. The girl was transported to Mercer Island Police Department for processing and released to her parents.
Between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Aug. 19, someone stole a pine armoire left in front of a residence in the 4000 block of Island Crest Way. The armoire was to have been part of a yard sale. Value of the armoire is estimated at $700.
