City seeks citizens to serve on advisory boards
Islanders interested in serving the community through one of the many advisory boards are encouraged to apply for one of the open advisory board positions. There are positions open on the Arts Council, Design Commission, Open Space Conservancy trust, Planning Commission, Utility Board, and Youth and Family Services. Applications are due by May 6. More information is available on the city's Internet web site: www.ci.mercer-island.wa.us. Or, for an application, call Ali Spietz, city clerk, at 206-236-3572.
Lions Club scholarship
The Mercer Island Lions Club is seeking applicants for a one-time, $1,000 scholarship to be used for tuition and enrollment fees at any two-year or four-year college in Washington state for any curriculum. The scholarship also applies to technical and vocational colleges.
Applicants must be legal residents of Washington, live on Mercer Island and enrolled at a either a public or private high school on Mercer Island or home schooled. Financial need is not a requirement.
Completed applications, which include a 750-word essay on the importance of service club activities to a community, must be submitted by April 29. Applications are available at the college counselor's office at MIHS or through Jim Horn, 232-2347.
