Teen drinking

A 15-year-old boy was transported to Overlake Hospital at 4:30 a.m. March 13 and a second juvenile was taken home by his parents after police and fire department personnel responded to a possible alcohol poisoning incident in the 9500 block of S.E. 43rd Street. Officers reported there was an overwhelming smell of substance and the intoxicated youths were vomiting repeatedly. Parents of the second 15-year-old boy would not allow officers to check on his condition when they arrived at his home in the 2200 block of 81st Avenue S.E. The parents said they would take the youth for medical care.

Suspicious circumstances

Police responded to a call at 8:07 p.m. March 14 from the 4100 block of East Mercer Way. The witness reported seeing four juveniles drive by with some sort of pellet gun or BB rifle. Mercer Island police saw the vehicle, a four-door, white, 1982 Mercedes Benz, parked alongside the road. The officer noted a strong smell of marijuana. A search recovered a small plastic bag with substance that later tested positive for marijuana. The report was forwarded for criminal investigation.

DUI

A Bellevue teen was arrested for traffic infractions and driving under the influence of alcohol at about 6:20 p.m., March 14 when he failed to stop at a four-way stop in the 7800 block of S.E. 27th Street. A bicycle police officer stopped the vehicle after he saw the 19-year-old male drive his black, 2002 Honda Accord through the intersection. After failing a breathalyzer test, the teen admitted to drinking whisky prior to operating the vehicle. He was transported to the Mercer Island police station and released into his father's custody.

Shoplifting

On March 12, a QFC employee reported seeing a suspect remove a box of items from the store's loading dock in the 7800 block of S.E. 28th Street. The employee gave police a license plate number and vehicle description, as well as a description of the suspect. Police went to the young man's home in the 4700 block of 91st Street S.E., where he denied being involved in the incident. His mother refused to cooperate with police or allow them to talk to the 17-year-old suspect. The case was forwarded to Criminal Investigation Services' detectives for follow-up.

Mail theft

Mail was reported missing March 12 from two mailboxes on Boulevard Place; from a home in the 5800 block of West Mercer Way on March 11; from a home in the 4200 block of West Mercer Way on March 14; and from two homes in the 1600 block of Roanoke Way on March 16. In a separate incident on March 11, an Island resident turned over to police a videotape of mail theft occurring last month at a mailbox in the 4300 block of Forest Avenue. A resident had suspected someone was stealing his mail and set up a video camera to record his mailbox while he was out of town. The video recorded two vehicles, a light-colored Volvo and a dark sedan, stopping at the box and the driver of one vehicle taking pieces of junk mail the victim had placed in the box. Police are investigating the incident.
