The city's popular Spring Recycling Collection event is set for 9 a.m.-3 p.m., March 28, at the Mercer Island Boat Launch, 3600 East Mercer Way. For a list of acceptable items to recycle, go to www.mercergov.org or call 275-7608.
Showcase tonight
The 30th annual Fine Arts Showcase 2009, “Creative to the Core,” will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m., March 25, at Mercer Island High School. Co-sponsors: MISD, Mercer Island Fine Arts Advisory Committee. Admission: donation requested for adults; $7/advance, $10/door. www.mifineartsed.org.
Library book sale
Mercer Island Friends of the Library is holding a book sale on April 1-5, during library hours. Features fiction, non-fiction, hardback, trade, mass market and children’s books.
Engineered healing
Regenerative medicine is the topic for a talk next Tuesday by Professor Buddy Ratner, of the UW Engineered Biomaterials Department. The department’s goals are to make biomaterials that heal, to be used in implants for bones as well as soft tissue. The talk, sponsored by the Strivers, is scheduled for 1:45 p.m., March 31, at the Community Center at Mercer View. The presentation is free. For more information, call John Rose at 232-0863.
