After three weeks of delay, 15 new head-in parking spots were added to S.E. 28th Street outside of the Island Square apartments on Sept. 15. The street was repainted to allow for 13 two-hour and two 30-minute parking stalls. The street’s middle turning lane was removed as part of the project. Islanders can expect to see other changes to downtown parking by the end of September, DSG representative Joyce Trantina said.
“We’ll see guys down there flipping signs around any day now,” she said.
Several areas of downtown Mercer Island, from 76th Avenue S.E. to the Boyd Building parking lot, to the north end of 78th Street, will be turned into two-hour parking zones, allowing for drop-in shopping. Once Sunset Highway is complete later this year, 11 new four-hour stalls will be added.
