MI resident a commended scholar

Mercer Island resident Matthew Higgins, who attends University Prep, was named to this year’s National Merit Commended Scholars list.

Commended scholars are unable to compete for the National Merit scholarships, but they are candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses through the National Merit program.

Students take first at math competition

Mercer Island High School students Isaac Grosof, Andrea Lin, Greg Kim and Christina Sun earned first place at a recent Math is Cool competition.

MIHS competes at national debate contest

Two MIHS students, Stephanie Permut and Sean Ghods, competed last week at the national debate tournament in Dallas, ranking 15th overall out of 100 teams from across the country. Permut was ranked as the 19th speaker out of 200 competitors at the event.
