A memorial service for Mercer Island High School tennis coach Joyce Hedlund will be tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church.

The church is located at 3605 84th Ave. SE just off Island Crest Way. A reception will follow at the church. The MIHS and Mercer Island School District communities are welcome to attend.

Hedlund died on Wednesday morning after suffering a stroke on Monday. Hedlund was having lunch with a friend on Monday when she started slurring her speech. Her friend quickly recognized the signs of a stroke and called emergency services. Hedlund was taken to Overlake Hospital in Bellevue.

She was 66-years-old and would have celebrated her 67th birthday next week.

Hedlund was the head tennis coach at MIHS for 15 years and an assistant coach for four years prior to taking the top job, helping both the boys and girls team to numerous KingCo league and state titles during her tenure.
