An MIPD officer stopped a man in the middle of a burglary at the South-end Rite Aid on Dec. 9, after responding to the store’s alarm system. According to the police report, the suspect was attempting to remove merchandise from the closed business through a broken glass door. The thief led the officer on a foot chase, entered a 1992 Acura Integra and fled the scene. He did not get far before veering into a ditch and again running on foot. The officer located the car and called in a K9 search team to track down the suspect. He was identified and arrested. Evidence found on the suspect included a butane lighter, small bag with prescription pills and car keys. A hatchet head, which was broken off from its handle, was found on the floor inside the store. The thief was booked into the King County Jail.
