Colleen Malek, a 52-year-old Mercer Island resident, is accused of theft in the first degree.
According to court records, Michelle Kastner, a Medina resident, paid $12,472.21 for a poker table, eight chairs and three barstools that she had agreed to purchase from Malek through her business, Malek Design, on November 3, 2008.
Kastner wrote two checks made out to Malek Design — one when the agreement was made in November 2008 for $5,923.30, and another in the amount of $6,548.92 after she received an invoice in January 2009, which stated that the items were ready to be shipped.
Trial is set for June 23 in King County Superior Court.
