Another pizza place may come to Town Center

Seattle pizza restaurant Mioposto appears to be planning a new location on Mercer Island.

A liquor license application filed with the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board on March 9 lists the address as 2601 76th Ave. SE, the site of Hadley Mercer Island. The five-story mixed-use apartment building is still under construction, but was planned with 9,200 square feet of retail space.

Mioposto has three other locations, in Mt. Baker, Bryant and Admiral. It serves dinner, lunch and brunch (including breakfast pizzas).

There are a few other pizza restaurants in downtown Mercer Island, including Island Crust Cafe, Mo’s, Zaw, Tony Maroni’s, Tuscan Stone and Roberto’s, currently under renovation. A Pagliacci location is planned on the corner of 78th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 32nd Street.

Biennial citizen survey delayed

Every two years, the city commissions a professional telephone survey of registered voters across the Island to gather opinions on community, government, and quality of life issues.

The 2016 survey, conducted by EMC Research and originally scheduled for March 1-6, will occur this week from March 15-21.

Sustainability fair scheduled

The date is set for the return of Mercer Island’s Leap for Green sustainability fair. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center.

The event began in 2008 to celebrate Earth Day on April 22 by promoting environmental practices and activities for kids and adults, and to raise general awareness of local sustainability resources.

The fair will feature children’s activities such as arts and crafts, educational exhibits and nature-based programs, as well as birding tours and conservation information for parents. There will also be food trucks, live music, giveaways and a chance to see the city’s new electric vehicles.

City receives climate change award

Mercer Island was recognized nationally for its work in reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and confronting climate change.

On March 9, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) bestowed a 2016 Climate Leadership Award on the King County-Cities Climate Collaboration (K4C), of which Mercer Island is founding member.

The K4C is a voluntary but formal partnership that was formed based on the recognition that neighboring local governments can achieve greater action on climate solutions by working together. Since its inception, K4C has grown to 14 member jurisdictions, representing 75 percent of King County’s 2 million residents.
