Islander gymnasts compete at 3A state championships

Mya Levin, Stephanie Prince, Cece Belady, Emily Culbertson and Esther Leung represented MIHS at the state meet in Tacoma Feb. 19-20.

Five Mercer Island gymnasts competed at the 3A state gymnastics championships Feb. 19-20 in Tacoma.

Cece Belady placed on beam for the Islanders, tying for 16th with Holy Names’ Erin Kehoe (8.3). Belady also finished 48th on floor (8.725).

Mya Levin finished 71st (22.85) and Emily Culbertson was 73rd (22.075) in all-around competition. Levin and Culbertson tied for 49th on vault (7.45), and Esther Leung finished 78th (7.025). Levin tied for 48th on bars (7.1) and Culbertson tied for 78th (6.15).

Stephanie Prince led the Islanders on floor, tying for 43rd (8.775), while Culbertson was 60th (8.475) and Levin tied for 71st (8.3).

The Feb. 19 state championship results showed Kamiakin with the top team score of 180.475. Holy Names was second at 174.225 and Columbia River was third at 164.15.
