Islanders report bike, mail and identity theft | Police Blotter

The blotter consists of officers’ accounts of crimes and other incidents in Mercer Island. Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

May 9

THEFT: At 10:39 a.m., a man said that someone had stolen the lower unit from his boat’s outdrive while it was parked in the MI Beach Club parking lot.

MORE THEFT: A woman in the 9800 block of SE 35th Place reported at 1:32 p.m. that her mailbox was stolen, for a loss of $350. The wooden base had been sawed off.

MAIL HOLD: A woman in the 4700 block of Forest Ave. SE said at 5:12 p.m. that her mail was put on a vacation hold, which she had not authorized.

May 10

GREENERY IN THE PARK: Two subjects who had been smoking marijuana were contacted in a park in the 2000 block of 84th Ave. SE at 12:59 a.m. The 19-year-old female subject handed police a canister with 6.92 grams of a substance that tested positive as marijuana, and was issued a citation. Both subjects were escorted out of the park.

FRAUD: Police received a report of fraud and identity theft from the 4700 block of Forest Ave. SE at 11:04 a.m., for a loss of $22,000.

May 11

MORE FRAUD: Identity theft of over $1,500 was reported in the 3200 block of 67th Ave. SE at 10 a.m.

THEFT: A man said his wife’s bike, a black and green Cannondale Swift, was stolen from the bike room in the Shorewood Apartments between noon and 8 p.m.

IDENTITY THEFT: A woman in the 4600 block of E. Mercer Way said at 12:36 p.m. that several of her account passwords were changed, and someone had attempted to open a WalletHub account using her Comcast email.

May 12

PROWLING: A car prowl was reported in the 3000 block of 78th Ave. SE at 7:31 p.m. The window had been smashed, and items were stolen.

DUI: A suspect was allegedly driving under the influence in the 6800 block of W. Mercer Way at 9:50 p.m.
