Islanders report fraud, car prowls and theft | Police Blotter

The blotter consists of officers’ accounts of crimes and other incidents in Mercer Island. Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

May 28

DEATH INVESTIGATION: An elderly man who lived in Aljoya died in his room at 9:54 p.m.

May 29

PROWLING: An unsecured vehicle was reported prowled at 4:55 p.m. in the 7000 block of 82nd Ave. SE. The house key and garage opener for the victim’s apartment in Seattle were taken. There was no damage to the car.

May 31

PROWLING AND THEFT: A victim left her computer and bag in her vehicle overnight in the 9100 block of Fortuna Drive. The driver’s side rear window was shattered, and her property was stolen, for a loss of $2,950.

June 1

BIKE CRASH: A cyclist who crashed their bike in the 2400 block of 60th Ave. SE was transported to Harborview with severe injuries. Their property was taken into safekeeping.

FRAUD: A woman in the 2400 block of 76th Ave. SE said at 11:13 a.m. that she recently attempted to open a credit card, and discovered through a credit check that a Comcast account was opened in her name in June 2016.

June 2

PROWLING: A possibly unlocked vehicle was reported prowled in the 7600 block of SE 27th St. at 10:28 p.m. Several items were stolen.

June 3

DUI: A vehicle was stopped for speeding and driving on the shoulder in the 8800 block of SE 54th St. at 11:47 p.m. The driver, who was 16 years old, had an odor of alcohol and admitted to drinking at a graduation party. He failed field sobriety tests, and was arrested and processed at the Mercer Island Police Department, where he provided two BAC readings of .098.

June 4

DUI: A suspect was stopped at 1:11 a.m. in the 2700 block of 77th Ave. SE for not having headlights. They refused field sobriety tests and were placed under arrest for suspected DUI. They provided BAC results of .062 and .059.
