Mercer Island’s annual summer extravaganza, Summer Celebration! went off without a hitch last weekend.

Hot weather and sunny skies brought out the crowds, who enjoyed the Grand Parade, street fair and an evening fireworks show at Luther Burbank Park on Saturday evening.

Once again the Mercer Island Community band was a hit in the parade, bringing together musicians both young and old,  from around the Island, led by 98-year-old Bert Pound (see center below) in the percussion section.

This year’s festival coincided with Washington State’s 125th anniversary and so featured Pacific Northwest favorites like a lumberjack show, Native American performances and dozens of local vendors.
