Mercer Island High School’s radio station nominated for 13 national awards

The station rebranded and launched as KMIH - 889 The Bridge last year.

The staff of the Mercer Island High School radio station, KMIH – 889 The Bridge, have been nominated in 13 categories in the 78th Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Golden Microphone awards.

The winners will be announced on March 3 in a ceremony at the Penn Hotel in New York City.

MIHS finalists are:

Emily Reyes – Nominated for Best Air Personality and Best Program Director

Emily Raissis – Best Underwriting Spot

Best Play-By-Play Football – Max Tanzer, Garrett Poore (Anthony Reyes Producer)

Best Play-By-Play Basketball- Jaeden Pritchard, Cole Hibbert and Andrew Hanson

Best Sports Talk Show – “The Hat Trick” hosted by Truman Keith

Best Sports Interview – Max Tanzer interviews Aaron Goldsmith, Mariners announcer

Best Sports Update – Ryan Friedman

Best News Broadcast – Luka Marceta

Best Radio Drama – Celia Kornblum (KMIH Ghost Story)

Best Phone App – Zoe Sheill

Best Training Method – KMIH Staff

Best Logo – KMIH Staff

MIHS broadcast media instructor Joe Bryant said he is proud of the nominees as well as his entire staff.

“Being recognized in these 13 categories is great and there were also many excellent submissions from other KMIH broadcasters. I am thrilled with all our staff that entered and look forward to use being well represented at the conference and awards ceremony in New York,” Bryant said.

Both Marceta and Tanzer were IBS Grand Prize winners last year and Reyes was also a Golden Microphone finalist. All other students are first-time nominees.

The 78th Annual International IBS Conference will be held in Manhattan March 2-3 and, in addition to the awards ceremony, Mercer Island students who attend will have the opportunity to meet and learn from top professors and industry professionals from all over the country.
