Mercer Island Library sponsors ‘Faces Behind the Ban’ panel

Mercer Island High School junior Arwa Mokdad has organized a panel discussion featuring people from the six countries banned by the administration’s executive order. The event, which will be at 2 p.m. on May 20 at the Congregational Church on Mercer Island, is sponsored by the Friends of the Mercer Island Library.

Join guests from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen for a discussion about their cultures and the effects of executive orders on immigration. Learn some historical background and hear about the impact of travel restrictions on people in the Mercer Island community. The event includes a Q and A session with the panelists.

Mokdad will moderate the discussion, which has been titled “Faces Behind the Ban — Perspectives from Six Nations.”
