The Mercer Island boys basketball team returned to KingCo league play in dominating fashion, beating Sammamish 77-45 Tuesday night at MIHS.

The Islanders (9-2, 3-1) stormed out to an 18-7 advantage in the first quarter and held the Totems (5-6, 0-4) to single digits in scoring for two of the game’s four quarters. Sam Nordale led Mercer Island in scoring with 22 points, while Griffin Emanuels had 13 and Ethan Chen had 10.

Next, Mercer Island will host Lake Washington (8-2, 3-1) at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8 at MIHS.
