Mountain rescue team recovers body of 19-year-old Mercer Island man

The body of a Mercer Island teen who disappeared after a glissading accident earlier this month in Aasgard Pass was recovered by rescuers at about 11:30 a.m. on June 25.

19-year-old Benjamin Gore’s body was found by a team of Chelan County Mountain Rescue members and a Chelan County SAR deputy, according to a press release from Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett.

Gore was missing and presumed dead after falling through a hole the snow in the pass, which is in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area, on June 4. Search and rescue coordinators anticipated that they would need to wait several weeks to make a recovery of the body because of the snow depth and fast-running water.

The body was turned over to the Chelan County Coroner, and his family was notified.

Gore was a graduate of Mercer Island High School, and was recognized at the MIHS commencement ceremony on June 8 by a fellow student.
