New leader for Mercer Island’s Covenant Shores community

Bruce Erickson has been named the executive director of the Covenant Shores retirement community on the Island.

Bruce Erickson has been named the executive director at Covenant Shores, a Covenant retirement community in Mercer Island.

Erickson is responsible for all operations at Covenant Shores, which serves 300 residents in 208 apartments, 32 assisted living residences, 15 memory support residences, and a Medicare-certified skilled nursing center with 43 private and semiprivate suites.  He directs a staff of approximately 160.

Erickson has more than 25 years of leadership experience serving senior adult communities. He comes to Covenant Shores from Presbyterian Retirement Communities Northwest, Seattle, where he was interim health services director. Before that, he was president and CEO of Franke Tobey Jones, a continuing care retirement community in Tacoma, Wash. He worked with senior housing providers in Georgia, Maryland and California, where he was health care administrator for Mount Miguel Covenant Village, Spring Valley, Calif. Like Covenant Shores, Mount Miguel is a member of Covenant Retirement Communities’ network.

Throughout his career Erickson served on numerous task forces and boards of directors to help improve the quality of life for senior adults. While serving on a LeadingAge of Washington task force in 2011, he developed accountability and transparency standards for continuing care retirement communities; all LeadingAge of Washington members adopted these standards. He also served on the board for LeadingAge of Georgia from 1998-2005, and was chairperson from 2002-2003.

Erickson graduated magna cum laude from North Park University, Chicago, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and earned his Master of Health Administration degree from University of Washington, Seattle.  He is a licensed nursing home administrator in Washington.
