New math curriculum approved for Mercer Island High School

The Mercer Island School District has approved a new high school algebra and geometry curriculum. The high school will start using Prentice Hall’s “Understanding By Design” text for algebra I, geometry and algebra II classes at the high school. The district’s Instructional Materials Committee narrowed down the choices from 11 at the beginning of the review process last fall, to just two, Holt 2007 and the Prentice Hall books. According to the review, the Prentice Hall books have clearer objectives in each section, a broader level of questions, a preferable layout model, come with technology which is easy for both students and teachers to use, and meet the reading level of a variety of students.
