PDC dismisses complaint against Sen. Steve Litzow

The Public Disclosure Commission on Dec. 5 dismissed the complaint filed by 41st District Democratic Reps. Tana Senn and Judy Clibborn against Republican Sen. Steve Litzow in October.

The complaint claimed that Litzow used the representatives’ photos in two of his campaign ads, which they said gave the false impression that they endorsed him for the November election. Both representatives endorsed Litzow’s opponent, Lisa Wellman, who won the general election.

However, neither advertisement indicates that Clibborn or Senn endorsed Litzow, nor is it implied, according to Evelyn Fielding Lopez, executive director of the PDC who reviewed the complaint.

“These advertisements simply indicate that these individuals have worked with each other on issues that may be of interest to voters,” Lopez said in her decision letter. “To the extent that there is an implication that a candidate is capable of working with members of the other political party, that is certainly not libelous or defamatory.”

Based on Lopez’s findings, the PDC closed the matter and will not conduct a more formal investigation.
