ELSIE DELORES SKOOG

Elsie Delores Skoog of Mercer Island died June 4, 2017. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, December 8, 1921, she was the daughter of Edward and Lillian Mantoen, poor market farmers.

After high school, Elsie worked making wing parts for the war effort (WWII). She married James Arthur Skoog May 14, 1942, a graduate aeronautical engineer, who had a war job with Chance Sikorsky in Connecticut. Post war, they moved to Seattle, then Mercer Island in 1954.

Elsie devoted herself to family, church, and her hobby, baking. She was an avid water and snow skier, and she flew with husband Jim around the country in their private plane.

Jim predeceased Elsie in 1996. Elsie is survived by her three sons: James Jr. (Penny) of Pensacola, FL; Jonathan of Bellevue, WA; and Leonard of Quilcene, WA.
