JANET ALWYNNE JARED

Janet Alwynne Jared, a longtime resident of Mercer Island, died peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, May 26, 2019, at the age of 84.

After graduating from Mackenzie High School in Dearborn, Michigan, Jan and her best friend drove across the country and settled in Seattle. They got jobs downtown and lived in an apartment on Alki Avenue. In the mid-fifties she married architect Bill Dimmich, with whom she had three children Stacy, Cort and Cara. They built an amazing house on the west side of Mercer Island overlooking Lake Washington. The marriage ended shortly after, yet Jan lived in the house for over 50 more years.

In 1971 she married the very handsome and debonair Mike Jared, a successful businessman who had three kids of his own, Jay, Drew and Jeff Jared. Jan and Mike took their blended family on many happy summer vacations together sailing through the U.S. and Canadian San Juan Islands, and winter vacations skiing locally as well as in Sun Valley, Idaho. Jan and Mike loved to travel and took many memorable trips together to Europe, Mexico and Hawaii.

Jan was known as a beautiful, vibrant woman with great style. She will be remembered as dressed in rich hues of purple, with makeup and nail polish to match, and wearing artful jewelry. She loved interior design, jazz and classical music, and perusing art galleries. She was a fantastic cook and loved to entertain; her holiday parties were memorable. Jan was also generous with her time. For years she volunteered at Ryther Children’s Center, did fundraising for Northwest Harvest, and was active in church ministries. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and a doting grandmother. She loved her friends deeply and cherished her Emmanuel church community. Jan will be greatly missed.

Jan is survived by her husband Mike Jared; her children Stacy Dimmich, Cort Dimmich, Jay Jared (Maggie), Drew Jared (Stacy), and Jeff Jared (Michelle); her grandchildren Alwynne Dimmich, Cami Jared Hall (Eric) and Michael Jared; and her great-grandchildren Carter Hall and Hayden Hall. She was predeceased by her daughter Cara Dimmich. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on July 22nd at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Mercer Island, Remembrances can be made to Emmanuel Church, 4400 86th Ave. S.E., Mercer Island, WA, 98040.
