L. Jeanne Hood

L. Jeanne Hood

Beloved wife and mother, L. Jeanne Hood, born January 28, 1928 in a sod house in Colorado, passed peacefully in her sleep at her Mercer Island home on April 16, 2016. Her life continues to inspire her five children, twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two of ten remaining siblings.

In her youth she excelled at school, singing with friends and family on the local radio, and horseback riding, including trick riding in the rodeo. Despite damaging her lungs while growing up on a cattle ranch in the Dust Bowl, Jeanne trained to become a fiercely competitive tennis player and skier, accomplished painter, gardener, seamstress, gourmet cook, elegant hostess of parties, and singer and hummer of tunes. She shared her love of dancing, classical music, politics, history, and travel with her beloved husband Bob, Dr. Robert F. Hood, with whom she is now reunited. Her work included modeling of clothing and the first contact lenses, working for a Senator in Washington, DC, and managing Dr. Hood’s private practice.

Jeanne is remembered as an unfailingly polite, hard-working, and generous person, always willing to lend an ear or shoulder or a beautiful bouquet from her garden.

A memorial will be held June 5, 2016, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 1836 72nd Ave, S.E., Mercer Island, WA 98040, followed by a gathering at Jeanne’s home.
